I enjoy reading your essays. It was so nice to read the kudos to Ed too!
I am in the middle of a 2 week stretch of leave and do generally just switch off from work, because that's what I identify that I need. I have been being tempted to sneak a look at my emails today, but after reading your essay, I won't. :)
Yay for not opening the emails!! I once organised a whole strike cover rota from a beachfront holiday house, such was my resistance to taking a proper break. But this morning, on the way home from the kids' swimming lessons, I saw a pretty tree so we stopped to take a photograph and then some horses came over to the edge of their field to say hello. These are the kind of moments I'd have missed entirely before. Thank goodness I lost my job! :)
Oh wow, thank you, Susan. It's been a pleasure meeting you, and I'm touched by your kindness. Writing here is absolutely transformative. It's hard to believe it has only been three months, I feel so incredibly fortunate to have found this community!
A lovely piece, Louise. I am so pleased that White Ink has provided you with support and a community to write. You are very talented indeed and I can see you are only at the beginning of this new path you have carved for yourself. Very exciting times. I am cheering you on xx
Thank you so much, Anna. I'm still so new to your community but you've been so welcoming and I'm learning so much from you already. I am honestly humbled by your words. Thank you for such generous support! xx
Such beautiful words Louise, and steps I relate to so much from my own Journey of understanding myself. That raw honesty that comes to the surface when journaling has often left me with surprises to reflect on that I had no idea about. Plus learning about and leaning into my human design. Complete permission to be me, finally 💕💕
Yes it’s so definitely an adventure I could never have envisaged. Simply beautiful, discovering who we are and living in alignment with that is the best feeling ever. ✨🙌🏻
Such a nice essay! And I recognize many of the same steps and feelings attached to them. I have gone through a similar pivot, and share about it in my own publication. Will definitely follow your journey going forward!
Thank you, Carole! That's really kind of you, and I'm so pleased it resonated. I just read your latest piece and I think we have a lot in common. Can't wait to get to know you more :)
I loved reading this Louise, you write so beautifully, I felt like I was with you in your study! Also, to see our session helped you gain clarity has truly made my day. I'm excited to read your next post as you dive deeper into your values. They are a great compass! 🧭 Your story is unfolding before our eyes 🤗
A pivot can be so liberating but takes some working through emotionally. I hope writing about it in this way helps, I look forward to the next instalment.
Thank you, there is something quite motivating about articulating how far I've come and what the key elements were that shifted the dial for me, I think. There have certainly been a lot of emotions involved, but the growth I'm feeling is so worth it. Thanks for your lovely comment.
Such a beautiful written piece, Louise. Super engaging with elements everyone can relate to in their life for themselves. Happy anniversary to the old you falling away - you have a wonderfully long and exciting road ahead with writing very much a feature, I hope…
Thank you, Kole! That's super kind. Yes, I fully intend writing to feature for a long time coming. Looking forward to continuing opportunities to write with you too :)
I already pivoted once more than ten years ago and I’m about to pivot again, so I resonate with a lot of what you said. Step 1 was/is important for me, but I’ve recently realized that finding the right support was/is paramount. People that will pull you up, dream with you and never judge you no matter the outcome.
You're so right - and it's so important to trust your instinct on who your people really are in these times when everything around you is changing. Thanks so much for commenting, and I'm walking right by your side as we do this pivot dance together!
Amazing piece Louise. How that quote in the book sets the stage is amazing. I'm pleased I found your Substack on our FB page for Ink&Flame and will certainly be so pleased to read your upcoming parts as you surely will succeed along the way.
Thank you, Sally! Ink and Flame was just incredible, wasn't it! It's been a privilege to write alongside you and I will be reading your words too for a long time to come :)
Even though our vocations are quite different, I relate to so much of this. As you know, I too am also currently living in that space between - reassembling how I do work and life. I loved the shout out to your husband. I honestly believe that having a brilliant life partner backing you every step of the way makes all the difference, it’s magic. And it works both ways of course ✨ Great piece, looking forward to part 2.
Louse ❤️I especially like point number 1. We can be so hard on ourselves. We need to remember to give ourselves permission to slow down and be kind to ourselves. X
Thank you so much! You're absolutely right, there's this palpable urgency to rush and try to 'fix' things when something major like a job loss happens. Taking the time to let things settle has been utterly transformative. I've always tried to teach my children to be kind above all else. Now I'm going to make sure I'm explicit in teaching them that it all starts with being kind to ourselves. x

You had me at 12 notebooks 📚✍️ great essay 👌
Ah thanks lovely! It feels good now that I actually write in them. So many have sat empty for too long!
That’s music to my ears
I loved listening to you read this Louise, your steps so resonated with changes I’ve been making over the last five years

Thank you lovely! Come hang out in my study any time. There's another desk next to me, we can send Ed off to his office at actual work haha.
Haha!
