Internet outages last night delayed this post, so I’ve recorded an audio reading of this poem as a thank you for your patience.
Given geopolitical events over the weekend, I thought that this poem, the first draft of which was born out of
’s tinywinterpoem challenge, might offer a tiny voice of hope from me today. For today’s writing prompt:
When you close your eyes and imagine a distant place, what images come to mind? Perhaps somewhere you’ve visited? Somewhere you’ve always wanted to go? You might imagine distance on a much larger scale - across galaxies or to other times.
Now imagine one particular element of that distant place you thought of - something you can see, or an item you might be holding.
Bring that item in your mind’s eye into your present surroundings, pick up your pen, and write...
Please do share in the comments, I’d love to see what this brings up for you.

Text only version:
DISTANT
Far from here
There is a place
Where mountains
Teach of life, and death, and breath
Far from now
Centuries-old wisdom
Talks of possibilities
Yet unimagined
Where humans
However distinct
Their beliefs
And hopes and dreams
Might live in peace
And more together
And not so distant
