Life is full of little moments and BIG THINGS.
We don’t get to have one without the other.
We all know the clichés - there’s no light without shade, no sunshine without rain, no colour without grey. Overused, yes, but true all the same.
What I’m realising at the moment is that when life is giving BIG THINGS, we’re not supposed to carry on as normal. We’re supposed to stop, to take notice, to get real. We need to feel all the feelings, not shut them down and pretend we’ll deal with them later (because spoiler - we won’t, and that’s just a recipe for a future self who forgets how to feel much at all).
So, I’m not going to apologise for the time it’s taken to send out this newsletter, instead I’m thanking you for your patience. And that gratitude is heartfelt. Because the truth is, there are some big things going on just now. Not big things I’m going to write about, but big things all the same. But the also-truth is that writing is how I’m learning to make sense of the world, and writing to you all has been the most wonderful gift as I navigate the shifts and twists of life.
As a way of saying thank you, I have a poem with an audio recording to share, and a very special invitation to an opportunity to submit a piece of your own writing with a possibility of publication by my colleagues over at Lemon Jelly Press CIC. And I’ll be back when I can with some of the more topical and/or personal essays you’ve probably come to expect.
Wishing you all a very bright beginning as spring gives way to summer.
With love,
